Brian Hooper brought his lucky fork to help him eat 35 pierogies and win the men’s division of the Ukrainian National Club’s eighth-annual pierogi eating contest Saturday afternoon.
Hooper powered down the potato-and-onion-filled dumplings in just eight minutes to best Trevor Harmon, a five-time winner of the contest. Harmon ate 22 pierogis at the event that raised $6,713 for the Calvary Food Pantry.
Donna Wilmot won the contest’s women’s division and Steve “The Moose” Kymta, won the senior division.
The UNC’s eating contest is a club community service project and has grown every year, said Scott Dalrymple, one of the event’s organizers. The first year it raised $1,500, he said.
